• BNS-YG Technical Visit to BR2 (SCK•CEN)

    The Belgian Nuclear Society (BNS) Young Generation organises on October 26, 2016 a technical visit to the BR2 reactor of SCK•CEN, and invites the young members of to BVS-ABR to join this visit.

    The visit shall take place when the reactor is in operation, so that we can observe the Cherenkov light in the pool… It will be coupled to a visit of another installation (to be announced).

    During the visit also members of the Dutch Young Generation of the Netherlands Nuclear Society (NNS) will join and afterwards there will be a social event.

    For practical reasons, the number of participants will be limited to 20 persons. Priority is given to BNS-YG members and young members of BVS-ABR (<36y).

    About BR2

    Reactor BR2 (Belgian Reactor 2) is amongst the most powerful and flexible research reactors in the world. Since its start-up in 1962 the reactor has operated on uranium with pressurised water as coolant and moderator. BR2 has recently undergone a thorough maintenance and modernisation operation in order to continue its main activities in a safe and efficient way: nuclear material science and fuel research, production of radioisotopes and the irradiation of silicon.
